Self-Care Challenge Day #4: Movement

Again, in our exploration for self-care practices, we bump up against one of those habits that we all know are good and healthy. Thirty minutes a day and all that. We know this.

Mentally and physically, regular physical activity one of the most effective, basic ways we can take care of ourselves. Then why can this be so difficult at times? Probably because 30 minutes can feel like a long time when you’re looking at a to-do list three miles long.

The thing with movement is that consistency is so much more important than perfection. A daily ten minute walk is going to be much more beneficial in the long term than sporadic bouts of more intense exercise.

Yet, when the walls of anxiety, depression, chronic fatigue, prenatal and postpartum mood disorders press in, even the thought of putting on shoes and going out the door can be overwhelming.

So today we’re going to move our bodies. Intentionally. In ways that feel good. If at any point you hate how it’s making you feel, I’m giving you permission to quit.

Maybe that looks like playing in the snow with the kiddos. Or taking a few minutes to follow a yoga video on YouTube- little ones love yoga, too.

Then come back and share about it. What worked for you today?
